remember a day before today a day when you were young.
free to play alone with time evening never came.
sing a song that can't be sung without the morning's kiss
queen - you shall be it if you wish look for your king
why can't we play today
why can't we stay that way
climb your favorite apple tree try to catch the sun
hide from your little brother's gun dream yourself away
why can't we reach the sun
why can't we blow the years away
blow away
remember...

i've had this space for quite a time, now with another name. the idea is to transfer my entries from my former blog. but going beyond the time my band has taken from me, the truth is that simply i haven´t dedicated time to this job. today i start posting in this space with a really sad news. soem days ago -plenty... more than two years- i wrote on my former blog about syd barrett's death. as you may know pink floyd is one of the bands that influenced me more on music making. today, in london, at sixty five, rick wright followed syd to the no retourning journey.
they where the sixties when wright studied at the regent street polytechnic college of architecture. there he met nick mason and roger waters, which whom he founded sigma 6 -a rock band- in 1964. later on, in 1965 syd barrett joined them: the pink floyd sound was created.
wright can only be defined as a musician in all the extension of the word. whom ever hears the floyd's first recordings would recognize that barrett and wright where the band's creative guys. is in their first singles where we can discover the seed of what later would became the classic pink floyd sound.
is really difficult not to be subjective in very close matters on what i do and influences me. that's why i can say that most of wright´s songs are on my top list on the band. how anyone can´t feel atracted by the rythm in "paintbox" or by the melody on "remember a day" or the more mature "summer '68".
although i think wright's lyrics are quite naive, i guess what invites someone to hear them is their melody. his lyrics are more daily life themes, while barrett lyrics where an explosive experiment and waters where extremely metaphoric.
but wright's pass through pink floyd was the most critical. after some diferences with waters, he was fired from the band in the middle of "the wall" tour. after the band's breakup it wasn't till "division bell" that he apears on the record's credits as a member. to everyone of us that feels attracted to pink floyd music we saw a shining hope when, after twenty four years, gilmour, mason, wright and waters played together again for live 8. but time and cancer aproach when we don't expect them and, now, the hope to watch the london cuartet together went with the musical touch of one of the most important keyboardist that has experimented with the classic hammond organ.
to end this post i leave the lyrics of "remember a day" which i guess express quite well today's situation; also i leave "paintbox" video, where gilmour makes his first apearence with the band -barrett was recently fired-.
